Minor League Scorebook

2008-04-18: Las Vegas 2, Salt Lake 3 #
Coon: 0-1, 3 BB
Evans: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Morales: 2-4
Brown, M: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Wood: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Patchett: 2-3
Alvarado, C: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 4.80 ERA
Rodriguez, R: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 9.00 ERA
Arredondo: (S, 7), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
The Bees liked Thursday's score so much they repeated it. In fact, it's the third time this year Salt Lake has defeated the 51's by a 3-2 score, sweeping the home series and putting the team up to a PCL best 14-1 to start the season, a franchise best, etc.

Terry Tiffee plated Luis Maza in the first on an RBI double. The Bees answered in the bottom of the second when Ryan Budde singled to drive in Matt Brown and Brandon Wood, and the score stayed 2-1 through the fifth, when Tiffee tied things up on another RBI single. AAAA slugger Tiffee now sports a ridiculous, small-sample-sized .541/.782/1.323 line in 55 AB.

The game came unknotted with Dee Brown's sac fly in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded (Brandon Wood's walk was an intentional pass given by Las Vegas reliever Mike Myers, who took the loss) to cashier the go-ahead run.

Giancarlo Alvarado didn't stick around long enough to get the win; that came on Rafael Rodriguez' watch, and Jose Arredondo picked up his seventh save along the way while giving up a hit and getting a strikeout (of Danny Ardoin, to end the game).

2008-04-18: NW Arkansas 1, Arkansas 3 #
Smith, Coby: 0-1, 2 BB
Statia: 0-3, 1 K
Ortega: (W, 2-1), 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 2.12 ERA
Marek: (S, 1), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.24 ERA
Hard to believe that the Travs haven't won a series yet this year, but they could do so tonight after taking the first two from the Naturals. Anthony Ortega got his second win thanks to an unearned run on Angels Sanchez' fielding error that allowed Ben Johnson to score from second. Johnson had earlier advanced to second on a passed ball by Northwest Arkansas catcher Cody Clark.
2008-04-18: Rancho Cucamonga 7, Stockton 10 #
Brewer: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 K
Ortiz, W: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Trumbo: 2-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 K
Toussaint: 0-2, 3 BB
Phillips: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
O'Sullivan: 3.0 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 4.74 ERA
Bootcheck: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Albano: (L, 0-2) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 6.23 ERA
Rancho got on the board early, running the score up to 7-1 at the middle of the third that included homers by Mark Trumbo and P.J. Phillips, the latter's first of the season. But what the hitting gave, starter Sean O'Sullivan gave back almost as quickly, surrendering five runs in the bottom of the third; O'Sullivan only lasted three frames, which led to his replacement by Chris Bootcheck.

Making his third rehab appearance with the Quakes, Bootcheck, consistent with his other work, pitched scoreless ball while there. Reliever Marco Albano took the loss with a three-run fifth.

2008-04-18: Cedar Rapids 9, South Bend 1 #
Moore: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 K

Rosenbaum: 2-4
Anton: (W, 1-1), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2.95 ERA
The Kernels posted a six-spot in the third and that was all they neeed, but Mike Anton was stingy anyway, going seven innings and giving up only one run while failing to strike out or walk anybody.

Preston Mattingly's second homer of the season helped spark the Loons to a win over Peoria; Steve Johnson collected his first season win while striking out seven over six innings. Good work.
