News

Forgotten among a bunch of other things, but perhaps of interest... via David Pinto, the A's picked up Rajai Davis from the Giants. Huh?

Arredondo: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1.80 ERA
18-1, and it's at this point when you start realizing that there is a second-place team that has half this many wins (the 9-10 Iowa Cubs). Kind of a crazy game from the standpoint that both teams posted six-run first innings, capped for the Bees by Ryan Budde's three-run jack. Things settled down, and after the Grizzlies and Bees traded a pair of single runs in the third and sixth respectively, the game went in extras.

Reggie Willits didn't make a start, exposing a flaw in my crawler along the way; he successfully made a sac bunt replacing Dee Brown in the 10th, ultimately getting Terry Evans to second, and thence home on Adam Pavkovich's RBI single. The victory gave Jose Arredondo his first victory of the season.

Salt Lake's 18-1 record is the best in organized baseball.

Miller: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 9.58 ERA
Troncoso: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 7.36 ERA
The earned runs were better than the peripherals in this one, as Justin Orenduff walked as many as he struck out (five each) in his first season victory. Lots of contributors on the offense, but surprisingly with this many runs, no homers. Former Dirtbag Saturday starter Cesar Ramos took the loss for the Beavers despite a pretty good line of two earned runs, four walks, and six strikeouts through five. Old Friend Mike Megrew entered the game behind him to retire no batters and give up four runs, all earned.

Brazoban: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 2.79 ERA
Hammes: 1.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 6.59 ERA
For some reason, James McDonald is having a hard time finishing six innings this year; this was the fifth time in six starts where he hasn't gotten through six, and only in two games has he even been eligible for a win. The real bad news came later, and he received a no-decision for his efforts.
