Albuquerque to Portland to Where?

Talk of the beleaguered Expos franchise moving has usually involved Portland, Oregon, one of the larger markets without an MLB team. However, the problems have been two: first, nobody with money willing to pony up, and second, no stadium to play in. Now comes news from Baseball America that the PCL Portland Beavers might end up in a similar situation as the Expos themselves, with the team being bought out by the PCL until a suitable owner can be found. This can't be a good harbinger for the MLB in Portland. And with Orioles owner Peter Angelos conveniently on the relocation board, it's unlikely that the Expos best possible market -- northern Virginia -- will happen, either.

Ironically, the Portland Beavers used to be the Albuquerque Dukes, the Dodgers long-time AAA club, before they moved. In a double twist, the Beavers are the Padres' AAA affiliate; it's no surprise that Josh Boyd expected the Padres minors to rank last in the NL West.

Edit: Doug Pappas' Business of Baseball blog reports that a group of Hispanic businessmen have put together a bid to move the Expos to ... old Tiger Stadium? As Pappas says, "[Partner Nickgo] Riesgo didn't last long enough in the majors to be hit by a pitch -- can someone check his minor league record for severe beanings?"
