Evans' Hands Were Tied -- He Wasn't Sitting On Them
Stephen Smith's excellent Future Angels website has an audio link to Bill Stoneman's speech to the Angels Booster Club. Starting at about 17:33, you can hear him talk about the particulars of the Vlad transaction, and specifically that the Dodgers were pursuing him.
Say what you want about Dan Evans, he wasn't sitting on his hands -- they were tied behind his back. This provides confirmation independent of the Times reports.
