Ignore the Man Behind The Curtain
I would like for all my readers (all three of you) to think I'm some sort of baseball polymath who scours the nations' newspapers for new insight daily. (Actually, the guy who was doing that in the offseason on the Dodger boards goes by the nick thebuland, and performed yeoman's work doing it.) It's true, sort of, but like magicians Penn & Teller, I'm going to let you in on my secret. My scouring goes on with the help of Google News Alerts. I just type in a search phrase (in this case, "Frank McCourt" dodgers), set the alert to send me breaking news rather than a daily summary, and presto! Google fires off an e-mail letting me know whenever a story including Frank McCourt and the Dodgers happens by. It's caught a bunch of fun stuff, including the now infamous Boston Globe article by Steve Baily calling for the McCourt Appeal. Great stuff, and all for free.
