Dodgers 5, Expos 4

Introductory thought: What was up with those gnats on the field? Everyone on the infield, at least, was shooing them away.

Secondary thought: Okay, we knew Lima wasn't a suitable replacement for Kevin Brown. But nobody, and I mean nobody -- myself especially -- would have told you even three months ago that Adrian Beltre's uniform might have to change to a cape-and-tights ensemble. It's finally happened, and as Jon says, he is a star. He's earning that money. I wonder what the people who questioned giving him $5 million are thinking now.

Tertiary thoughts: Do the Giants miss Livan Hernandez? Sure, he was the goat of the 2002 Series in Game 7, but he continues to pitch well -- 3.38 ERA, 6.79 K/9, 2.14 K/BB -- on a Montreal club whose very existence is in question. Now he's doing it for even less, for three years (why?). Show me another pitcher -- I was about to say, "besides Jason Schmidt", but he's not even doing that well -- with that line on the Giants. But the time for pitying San Francisco seems to be over. They won last night, 6-3 over the Marlins, they're out of the cellar, in third place, and coming up fast.

It's gonna be a race again.

This is gonna be good.
