Nuclear Fuson?
One of the stories that has gone quietly unnoticed of late in the AL West is that Grady Fuson, once-heir-apparent to the GM's job in Texas, might be getting crowded out in a last-minute campaign by current GM and perennial nitwit John Hart. (Thanks to Texas Rangers Blog for that link, soul-sucking registration required, or just disable Javascript.) Now that the Rangers finally have a winning season, Hicks is reconsidering his presumptive firing of Hart for ex-Athletic scouting director Grady Fuson. Really, now, Hart's the chimpanzee who bid against himself for A-Rod, and assembled the present group of starting throwers, many holdovers from previous futile seasons. Most notably, that group includes Chan Ho Park, an infamous and well-coddled bust, who dragged his personal caddy and offensive zero Chad Kreuter with him from the Dodgers, thus hurting his team on the mound and at the plate.
Fuson's major function for the Rangers -- overseeing the amateur draft -- will be completed next week. There's a dozen clubs out there that need a GM, any of which would be well-advised to take on Fuson. Astute fans of the A's, Mariners, and Angels all hope for Hart's continued "success" in the Rangers front office.
Comments:
It’s incredible how fast Hart went from “genius who built the Indians” to “dipshit who broke the Rangers.”
A good point I suppose, but wasn't he the fellow whose CW DePodesta questioned extensively in his Legg Mason white paper? It's clear now that DePo had a valid point.
It's available; do a Google search (at the bottom of the page) on my blog and look for "Depodesta white paper". It's one of those entries.
