Hell

Yankee fans condemned to the abyss must needs be forced to watch the Pirates.

And listen to their broadcasters.

Thanks to Time Warner Cable, who is giving us a free week of MLB Extra Innings, so we could make this discovery.

Comments:
I’ve got the same sample of Extra Innings from Cox right now. It really gives you a new-found respect for the work KCAL and FSN West put into their broadcasts. I was watching the Cubs FSN broadcast yesterday and the production values were ridiculously low. The A/V department from my high school would put FSN Chicago to shame.

You take Vinny's work for granted -- watching the Pirate broadcasters, you could just insert the places Scully would put a story about one of the Marlins players when it was his turn at bat, or maybe he'd notice something about the reliever on the mound and he'd tell you. His head's always in the game, he knows when to talk, and he knows when to shut up. First class, all the way. As for the Angels, they might not have Vinny, but Rex and Hud are still light years better than Atlanta, the Chisox, and now I can add Pittsburgh to that woeful list.

One time, watching a Cubs game against the Brewers, WGN cut to the Brewers feed; Bob Uecker seems to do a pretty good job, solo as Vinny. One at bat isn't enough to judge a man by, but he sounded better than some of the somnambulists out there. Joe Morgan and John Miller are better than some but worse than Rex and Hud; they consistently get players' names wrong (look, John, you've been calling Dodger games for how long and you STILL can't pronounce Beltre's name correctly?).

One more comment: I should add to this the caveat that the Pirates don't actually totally suck this year. The NL Central is arguably the strongest division, top to bottom, in the majors right now.
