It's Not Cricket.. Oh, Wait, Yes It Is
Richard passes on this link for the new American pro cricket league. With teams in LA, NY, DC, Florida, Chitown, SF, and Texas, and, well, not that many games, it seems like their travel budget is a mite limited, especially considering their TV schedule is "coming soon". Every bit as nutty as baseball in the UK or Russia. High comedy moment from this BBC interview with league founder Kal Patel:
Q. Who else is involved in this project? My guess: the market for this is mostly expat Indians who learned the game at home. I might just go to a game to see whether I can comprehend the rules.A. I have an owner who has stepped up to the plate [heh!] who has bought licences to operate eight teams in eight metro areas, his name is Kamal Verma.
Comments:
You think baseball in the UK and Russia is weird- peep this.
I have a friend who plays in the "Senior League" which is the top level of British Baseball. He says it's getting pretty popular because it’s more “fast-paced” then Cricket (truly a sad statement) and has forced the Cricket leagues to take measures to shorten games in response.
