DL Updates
The Times reports on a couple DL doings. First, OP will go on the 15-day DL with shoulder tendinitis. This will put Alvarez back in the rotation, and of course Edwin Jackson will get the callup from Las Vegas. Second, an MRI on Nomo's pitching shoulder revealed "a bruised bone in his upper arm and inflammation in the rotator cuff." Well, it's good to know that something was physically wrong with him, and moreover, it's good to recognize that the team sees it. Why did this take so long?
The story on the Dodgers webpage goes even further, saying
the MRI revealed changes consistent with an unstable shoulder joint. Last October, Nomo underwent surgery to clean a frayed labrum and areas of the rotator cuff, also the result of shoulder instability that allows excessive movement of the humerus in the shoulder socket. That is, even if Nomo comes back, his shoulder socket is so loose his humerus is banging around and getting bruised. That doesn't sound good for power or control.
Meantime, for the Angels, top prospect Bobby Jenks got shut down for the second time, and probably for good this season, with another stress reaction in his elbow. In that same article, Chone Figgins missed yesterday's start because of a mild concussion he received in Thursday's game, but no word on whether he'll miss more.
