Pickoff Moves

Aurilia Released

Rich Aurilia was designated for assignment, meaning he's been effectively released. Any team needing a .241/.304/.337 shortstop with declining defensive skills, contact the M's immediately. Thanks, of course, to Mariners Wheelhouse for the clue.

Angels 11, Blue Jays 2

Toronto got smacked around hard in this game, as Escobar came back and laughed at his former team. "See what you're missing?" Escobar said. "I can start, I can start, I can start," he taunted them as he went five and a third with two earned runs. Best possible news: the bullpen pitched scoreless relief, and Gregg and Donnelly both chipping in. Too bad I was at the Dodger game; this woulda been fun to see, especially the boys giving Escobar some old-fashioned pitcher love in the form of run support.

Recap

The Fate of the Green

Poster Ted at Dodger Thoughts made the prescient observation that Shawn Green has essentially replaced Eric Karros on the team. Presumably, this means we can now farm Green out to do jeans ads.

It's (Frankie's) Mother's Day In Houston

Looks like Frankie's mom will be admitted to the country to see her (grand?)son pitch in the All-Star Game.

Griffey Re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-injured

This time, it's a hamstring, the severity of which will be determined by an MRI tomorrow.

D-Mac Gets Double Platinum Sombrero

Dallas McPherson, noted for his taterly ways at the plate, made the kind of dubious first that really makes you think twice about sending him up to the big club: he fanned six times in a 5-4 loss to the Las Vegas 51's. He is the first player in the 101-year existence of the Pacific Coast League to do so.

Let's see: a golden sombrero is four strikeouts in one game, so I guess that means five is platinum, and six is ... double platinum? Feh. "His glove still needs work" is good enough reason for me to want him playing in Salt Lake until September, at least.
