The Giants In The Rearview Mirror
Jon has a brief post about the Dodgers sudden uphill climb for the remainder of the season. This is made worse by two significant facts brought forth in Baseball Prospectus about Team Halloween. First, the Giants have brought up rookie pitcher Noah Lowry, who has proven quite a revelation for them. He's 2-0 in five starts, with a 2.43 ERA. 6-4-2 World Headquarters watched with dismay on Sunday as he shut down the Cubs' sputtering offense. Not only do the Giants have a ray of sunlight in Lowry (whose parents were in the San Francisco stands, cheering him on), they also have the easiest schedule of any of the teams in the NL Wildcard -- and even the Dodgers -- going into the stretch.
This could be a much closer finish than most Dodger fans think. Six and a half isn't an insurmountain, not at all.
Comments:
I agree that the Dodgers may have a tough time winning the division, but not so much because of improvements on other teams. I checked out LA's record by opposing teams and most of their winning records are against really bad teams. They have even or losing records with division leaders and other wildcard teams.
