Izzy Hitting? I'll Say! Dodgers 8, Rockies 6

The weather looked to provide the Dodgers with a little lift at first, with 1008 kPa barometric pressure -- the exact same as at Dodgers Stadium, as it happened. Those of you who recall his 1996 complete-game no-hit shutout might also remember that it occurred while thunderstorms danced around the Denver area. The high humidity probably didn't hurt Nomo, but today, no meterological disturbance could help the hapless Nomo today, and he didn't even last two full innings, gagging up six runs, all earned, in 1.1. In all likelihood, it's his last start as a Dodger. I've said it before, but thanks Hideo.

Elseways: the Dodgers' offense lit up at exactly the right time, and managed to come back from that five-run deficit. The problem with a lead at Colorado is that the offense tends to be somewhat effusive while pitching becomes craptacular (though Eric Gagné certainly seemed to make it look easy in the bottom of the tenth). Even Bradley contributed and came out of his slump with a homer, going 1-3 with two walks on the night. And of course, Izzy hit the game-winning double. Woot!

There's plenty to be pessimistic about -- the pitching stank, for one thing -- but thanks to the schedule, the Bums have only one more off day, meaning a five-man rotatation through the end of the season will be needed on September 26. Fortunately, it looks like Penny will start as early as Tuesday, giving the team a much-needed boost through the hard part of the remaining schedule.

Go Dodgers!
