Pickoff Moves

Bonds Wants Extension To 2007

Having been through this with the Dodgers, I just have to wonder whether this is a good idea if you're Brian Sabean. Both have the large precedent of Willie Mays reportedly playing well past his prime, but for all that it's said, take a look at his numbers as a Met in 1972 and 1973: 267/.402/.446 in 195 AB in 1972, and .211/.303/.344 in 209 AB in 1973. The Mets knew what they were getting: the remnants of a great player. Will the Giants be so inclined? Or will they let him shuffle off to the retirement camp of designated hitter in the American League?

Barry Bad Luck: Anybody Want Outfield Pavilion Tickets?

Speaking of The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived™, the guy who bought the outfield pavilion seats hoping Bonds would slam his 700th there has given up, and is selling off his seats. That's what you get for a stunt. But don't worry -- he's making out. "Mahan has been reselling most of the 6,458 tickets for as much as $15 each -- much more than the $3.50 the Dodgers front office gave him as part of a standard group-discount rate." Dodger front-office types are looking to make sure this doesn't happen ever again.

Angels 6, Mariners 1

Salvaged win or no, you don't drop two series to last-place teams on the way to a division win. You just don't.

Recap

Malcontentedly Staring At The Rotations

Sean goes over the matchups for this weekend's games, and I'm pretty much in agreement; Saturday's the one we have to look out for. The problem, as always, is guys the Angels have never seen, and with the offense continuing to sputter, this could easily go down as a series loss once you combine the "we've never seen him before" factor with the hellhouse record Washburn enjoys (4-3, 6.79 ERA) at home.

I Wanna Be Cremated

So long, Johnny.

Comments:
I'm going to resort to a cliche here, but I can't help it:

Best. Entry title. Ever.
