Same Guano, Different Day

Bottom 1st: Red Sox 4, Angels 0. Meet the new Aaron/same as the old John. What did I say yesterday about spotting the Sox walks? Well, maybe walloping the Yankees wasn't such a big deal after all. If the Indians can do it, how hard can it be? Now these Red Sox fellows...

So much for Sele's quality start.

Top 2nd: There's a reason you have guys who can hit for power. Unless you've got guys on base in scoring position, singles are about as harmless as it gets. So, hey, Figgy plops one in. 4-1 Angels.

Will Eckstein hit into a double play? No! Bronson Arroyo plunks him instead, loading the bases. And now Erstad singles. Ooh, two runs. Vladi? No place to put him. And... he strikes out swinging. Nice at bat, Vlad. Why does he swing at stuff like that?

I'm sorry, whose idea was it to put Anderson behind Vlad? This is just stupid. I mean, really, he's hitting better, but he's not Barry Bonds, f'r chrissakes. Heck, he's not even the 2003 version of Garret Anderson. Sure enough: a 5-3 groundout, stranding bases loaded. Mike, get a grip. Swap Guillen and Anderson. Didn't work yesterday, it's not working today.

Top 3rd: Let's see now... who hasn't come to bat for the Sox? Oh, yes, Dave Roberts. Sele can't keep him off the bases even with napalm. Start the merry-go-round, Aaron. And sure enough, Johnny Damon whacks it to Vlad, and Dave scampers to third. The only surprise is that Dave didn't score from first.

Sac fly, Manny Ramirez. Red Sox 5, Angels 1.

Oooh, a strikeout. Aaron Sele, Cy Young candidate!

Top 4th: Wha-wha-what happened? Three runs on the board? We're tied you say? Red Sox 5, Angels 5?

Nah. Gameday must be broke. Time to put in power threat Alfredo Amezaga.

Bottom 3rd: An almost 1-2-3 inning for Sele? C'mon. You're pulling my leg.

Top 4th: Vlad and Anderson make quick outs, but then Guillen, not known for taking walks, walks on four straight, and Francona's had enough. Time to put on Terry Adams to face Troy Boy. This could be interesting... or not. Glaus flies out to right.

Bottom 4th: Man, what a slugfest. They hit ground rule doubles, we hit... singles. At least Mike's decided to keep Sele in there, rubbing his nose in it.

Or not. Man, I can't stand this anymore.

Recap

Comments:
Well, now it's time to concede one of the races and hope either Boston or Oakland sweeps the other. At this point, I'd prefer Boston to sweep, because we at least can control our own destiny v. Oakland later this month, while if we are battling Boston for the wildcard, we'll probably watch helplessly as they beat up on TB, baltimore, and toronto.

Hey, hey, hey- the BoSox still have six with the Yankees, so let's not count ourselves out quite yet...

...oh, wait. Nevermind. Yeah, we're boned.
