Ace My Arse: Yankees 3, Red Sox 1

A quality start in the regular season is a loss in the postseason.
-- Fred Flintstone, Manager, Bedrock Giants
Okay, so I'm making up the quote part, but not the manager part or the baseball part. Fred really was the manager of the Giants, which just goes to show that evil lurked in the hearts of Hanna and Barbera; something's not trustworthy about those two. (Just look at Bill Hanna's picture and tell me his eyes aren't set too close.) Regardless, there's some baseball wisdom in there somewhere, and Pedro put it to the test tonight. And, as last night, the "who's your daddy?" chant roared into the sulphurous Bronx air, the Yankee throngs unable to control their glee at putting the Sox two games closer to the end of their season.

So now we hear that the Angels series did in Curt's ankle. Yesterday the Orioles were to blame. Next I expect it'll be Derek Jeter, or the Bambino. Regardless, Curt's now listed as "hopeful" to start a game five, with a tendon "snapping over the bone". Yuck. One ace who isn't, one whose body has given out on him, and all those players about to leave to free agency. The Red Sox, with a farm system in steep decline, will have a most interesting offseason, even more so than the Dodgers or Angels.

It could start as early as Saturday night.
