Goodnight: Cardinals 6, Dodgers 2

Did anybody else notice the "Seconds From Disaster" ad behind home plate in the 8th? I thought it was appropriate.

Dodger fans chanting MVP during the postseason: enough.

We got one bad call against us, but it proved critical. Bradley actually doubled up Suppan, but the umpire didn't see it that way. Had it been called correctly, it would have been inning over. Instead, it became a three-run homer that put the game out of reach. That turned the game around right there.

In a year that has had so much magic, in a year when the Dodgers for once managed to get more than their share of the breaks -- even up to the clinching game -- their luck ran out as they encountered an obviously superior team. That Lima scratched out a win yesterday gave an ego boost to the team for the offseason, but no more.

Still, today had so many moments I wanted to freeze in time. We watched what may be the last at bats as Dodgers for Finley and Beltre, the last innings pitched for Alvarez, Perez, Carrara, and Venafro. The sound of Vin Scully's voice for the last time this year, and that of Ross Porter for the last time ever, perhaps. The sight of the old park on HD, a bit too much in contrast, but in sharp focus, the chanting, Randy Newman blaring on the speakers one last, sweet time. Tracy's classy final act of having his players meet with the opposition and congratulate them.

Congratulations to the Cards on their win. They've waited a long time to go just a little further. If it goes as I think, it will be a classic World Series, Cards vs. Yankees.

Comments:
I wanted to root for the Dodgers- I really did- but after the Angels lost I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I take some solace in the fact that LA didn't get any farther than the Halos.

The dodgers should have won the game. all calls from the umpires is not right! there should have been a 5th game!!!!!!!!!!!!! im so so mad.
