Pickoff Moves

Turning The Town Red

Gadfly T.J. Simers reports the Times agreed to change the color of its sign above the centerfield scoreboard red if the Angels made the playoffs. So it was last night.

Bradley Does It Again

Jon's already covered this, but it seems Bradley's found a way to infuriate sportswriters just after he got ejected for infuriating a fan. Hint to Milton: never anger a man who buys ink by the barrel (or works for one such). "Where's a bottle at?" Bradley said after calling Times sportswriter Jason Reid an "Uncle Tom", about as bad an epithet as it gets in the black lexicon.

This could really be the turning point in my estimation of his value to the club. "I gotta keep it real," he said, but maybe he left off, "real angry at all times".

Update: this morning on (the Mason and Ireland show? on) KSPN, apparently the FSN video of the incident got erased. Why, who asked for it, and how that happened remains a mystery, but... ahem. Update, again: duh, it was also in the Register story:

Much of the confrontation was caught on video by a Fox Sports Midwest TV crew. They were asked by Dodgers director of public relations, John Olguin, to erase the tape since they were filming in the clubhouse during a time when access is not normally granted to TV crews. They complied after being told their access for the remainder of the playoff series might be revoked.

A Brief Reply

Jon takes me to task for predicting a Cards sweep, saying "that the prediction, while relevant I suppose from a pre-event betting standpoint, is pointless once the players take the field." Oh, sure, I suppose I could say, hey, it's baseball, anything could happen, but the Heisenberg uncertainty principle doesn't work at large enough scales to affect the outcome of baseball games, especially with teams as overmatched as the Dodgers. A room full of horse manure may imply the existance of a pony somewhere, but not necessarily in that room.

Comments:
I'm not sure, but are you saying the Dodgers are horse-hockey?

Actually it's nice to see not everyone sees this team through rose/Dodger Blue colored glasses. Sometimes a dose of reality is a good thing.

Was Simers joking about the McCourt property in Boston being in foreclosure or is that for real?? It makes me wonder who we'll see at third base next season.

Bradley has outlived his value to the team and I strongly suspect he is not really as well liked by teammates and coaches as they would like us to believe. They are simply showing their best united front although Tracy is probably the most sincere of all.

No, that was for real. The story made the Boston Herald, IIRC. At the time, Frank considered it a speedbump, but I see it as a possible pothole. We remain on watch to see how that goes.

Rob,
Read the OC Register and find out the real story.

It sounds to me as if it was Bradley who was being provoked and Reid the one that needed the anger management. (In fact I think we'll need it if the Dodgers dont play well today!)

My subscription to the Times was cancelled this morning. I'm finished with that bunch until they get rid of Plaschke, Dwyre, Reid and Newhann.

I still don't get it. What did Reid do to provoke Bradley? Ask him about the St. Louis fans' reaction to him? How is that a provocation?

Ah, the Boston Herald story about Frank's business situation.
