Well, This Will Go Down Well With The "Barr-oids" Crowd

Ugh. I'm now waiting for the steroids analogue to Tell Your Children. Look, once and for all, strength doesn't give you hand-eye coordination. I'm not especially thrilled with Barry as a person -- he strikes me as being somewhat self-absorbed, but can you blame him, given what he's accomplished -- but it's hard to overrate what he's accomplished as a player. How many guys are on steroids? And how many of them have his record? Enough said.

Comments:
But bat-speed is an important part hitting, and that's what steriods effect the most. You can't pass off steroid use as "no big deal" just because the guy has the best eye in the history of the game.

Uh, yes I can. If steroid use in the majors is as widespread as some claim, how come there aren't more Barry Bonds running around out there?

The point is that steroids are illegal narcotics with the sole purpose of use is to enhance your performance. Screw the health issues or the question of whether or not they enhance performance. The fact is that these people take these ILLEGAL drugs because they believe that they will be more productive. They are trying to cheat and they should be punished for it. Now, I am not going to vilify any player until he admits it or is proven guilty, but the second they are, that's when I no longer respect that player and call for his head.

Steroids are not narcotics. But legal or illegal, I'm reminded of the first Prohibition, and remind the steroid-phobics that they haven't made a compelling case for prohibition. All that's happened is for them to be called a drug, cast into the same shadows with heroin and the opiates, minus any actual research.

As long as it is illegal, it is still illegal. That means any baseball player using these drugs are breaking the law. If you want to argue that it shouldn't be illegal, that's fine, I would agree with you there. But, as of right now it is illegal and they should be punished in the same way that any other person using steroids would be punished. Not only that, but the MLB has a right to make their own regulations on drug use and if THEY say steroid use is wrong, they have a right to punish people for it. And currently they do have a system that "punishes" people for steroid use.
