Pickoff Moves, Man Am I Bushed Edition

The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern. Every class is unfit to govern.
-- Lord Acton
Under democracy, one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule—and both commonly succeed, and are right.
-- H. L. Mencken
There now, wasn't that fun?

Dodgers To Replace Every Seat At Dodger Stadium

In T. J. Simers' column today, Frank announces his desire to replace every seat at Dodger Stadium. With Frank's budget, betcha it costs a quarter each time you need to fold it back down. (I'd give you a link, but the Times site seems to be flooded with people looking for election results. Update: here it is.)

New D'Backs Manager Has Interesting Past

... in the Chinese sense (i.e., as in the old curse, "may you live in interesting times"), so writes the Arizona Republic. He threatened his wife, broke down a door to their Oregon home, spent a night in jail, and declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy at one point, among other highlights. Too bad there isn't a Dodger Blues analogue for the Snakes -- they'd have a field day with this stuff. The team apparently failed to do a background investigation on their new manager. At first I thought it overreaction, but maybe U.S.S. Mariner's reaction wasn't.

Stottlemyre Gone for 2005

Mel Stottlemyre will not return in 2005. The new Yankees pitching coach will be AAA Columbus coach Neil Allen. This will come as good news for those who've called for his head previously. It's a move Bronx Banter doesn't seem too unhappy with.
Update: thanks to Cathy Young at Reason Online for the Mencken quote.

Comments:
It’s about time they replace those seats. I haven’t been to a game at Chavez Ravine since I moved to OC, but the one thing I remember is the horribly uncomfortable seats.
