Scioscia Overwha-wha-what?

On all-baseball.com, at the Yankees autopsy, part 2:
Cliff [Corcoran]: You have a certain point about [the merits of Joe Girardi as a bench coach], but I think he could be another Scioscia, which does come with it’s Erstads, Ecksteins and sac bunts, but also comes with an overachieving ballclub. I just have a good feeling about his ability to take charge and lead and not worry about making friends, but also not be so harsh that he’ll cause problems in the clubhouse—all very much like Torre. He seems like a zero horseshit type guy.
Wha-what? Scioscia an overachiever? Well, lookie here: only two of Baseball Prospectus's twelve authors predicted the Angels would come in first, and most of them said the A's would pull in first. (I certainly was inclined that way, myself.) Considering what he got from the lousy rotation, the injury-riddled staff, and an appalling defensive decline, maybe he should get some credit here.

Or maybe we should just send a thank-you card to the A's bullpen...
