Golden Baseball League
There's been threats and hints that this was going to actually go somewhere, but the news that former all-star Garry Templeton will manage the Golden Baseball League's charter team in Fullerton caught my eye. The GBL plans on bringing independent league baseball back to Southern California, with a level of play about that of A to AA ball. Some other notes from their FAQ:
- The season will consist of 90 games.
- Players will be recruited from the ranks of ex-collegiate players as well as unsigned professionals.
- Each team will carry a 22-man roster.
- The DH will not be used (i.e., National League rules).
- Tryouts start December 14 and 15 at CSUF.
- The initial team roster is Chico, Fullerton, Long Beach, Mesa, AZ, San Diego, Surprise, AZ, Tijuana (the Toros de Tijuana club has apparently changed league affiliations!), and Yuma, AZ.
This could be interesting...
