Signings News
- Royce Clayton to the Snakes, one year, $1.3M. Random Fandom dismembers this one as a potential step down considering Clayton's age.
- Two entirely different stories about the Sexson signing from Mariner Musings, one from the Washington Post saying Sexson had a -- gulp -- secret physical that caused the M's to blanch, the other, eminating from the Baltimore Sun, saying exactly the opposite (the M's will sign Sexson after all). This may be one of the more fascinating soap operas after it comes full circle, either way.
- Richard passed on an item he overheard on ESPN radio: former Mets GM Steve Phillips claims Pedro Martinez refused any physical that included an MRI, so the two parties agreed to a general strength test. I have two comments on this:
- How does Phillips, an ex-GM, know this?
- If true, the Mets are now the stupidest organization in baseball.

Re: Clayton. I made the mistake of violating my rule of not posting my thoughts before the winter season was over. It's a mistake, I suppose, if we keep Cintron for the next 2 or 3 years. What I failed to do was wait to see what happens in the next 3 months. If we permanently move Cintron (to 2B or out of the organization), then the one-year Clayton deal is better because we'll either have Sergio Santos or (wishful thinking cap on) Stephen Drew ready to take his place in 2006.
