Yankees Trade Lofton To Phillies

Kenny Lofton's career as a Yankee is over. He has been moved to Philadelphia for Felix Rodriguez. The Yankees will also contribute $1M cash as partial compensation for Lofton's $3.1M salary. It is expected that this means the Yanks will make a run at centerfielder Carlos Beltran.

The Yankees have to be looking at the declining, aging Rodriguez as a part to get other parts with; San Francisco fans had for years been disappointed in F-Rod's inability to deliver an out pitch. If they hang on to him, they'll have yet another competent-yet-not-overwhelming guy in a bullpen that ultimately ran out of steam in the postseason.
