Dodger Cold Pizza
Pizza is one of those great dishes that started out life as an answer to the question, "what are we gonna do with all this stuff in the fridge?" Okay, maybe not, but it's every bit as good the next day. With that in mind, this Orange County Register story:
- Alex Cora finds a home with Cleveland, for one year and an unknown number of dollars. Rotoworld adds
No other sources are confirming the agreement. If this is true, then GM Mark Shapiro has completely abandoned his plans to go young at some key spots. Cora likely would start at shortstop over Jhonny Peralta.
Update: Via Rotoworld again, confirmation from the Akron Beacon Journal, the Indians will sign him to a two-year deal. Rotoworld speculates he'll compete with Jhonny Peralta for a starting spot. - Regarding the Dodger coaches:
The Dodgers have finalized tentative contract agreements with their major-league coaching staff, including hitting coach Tim Wallach and pitching coach Jim Colborn. An announcement is expected later this week.
Hallelujah, and amen.Jim Lett is expected to move from bullpen coach to bench coach.
Comments:
Depends how much they're paying Cora, but if the plan now is to shift Peralta to 2B and deal Belliard after a career year, that could work out very well for the Tribe.
Regarding the Dodgers re-signing the coaching staff, how can you "finalize" a "tentative" contract deal?
Jim Lett ??? I wouldn't know him if i ran into him. But, I guess that's the underlying style of the LA coaching staff. Non-controversial, low key, and little press. Can someone lay down some background for me? Rob obviously sees this a positive. Thx.
The only time I ever heard of a bench coach screwing things up was last year when Oakland number two Chris Speier gave Macha the wrong splits on Garret Anderson versus the A's available relievers, thus losing the division for the A's. According to MWL Guide, he's a huge advocate of smallball:
"The teams Lett managed had two really obvious characteristics: They ran the bases intelligently, and they bunted more than any other team in the league."
I expect he'll get a reeducation under DePo...
