The Big Red Selling Crew

The Dodgers have sold two million tickets already. I have my theories as to why, but my suspicion that Arte is helping Frank -- and vice-versa -- gets a bit of a lift in this New York Times story:
"This is a hell of a market we're in," Moreno explained to reporters as spring training opened last month. "To stick our head in the sand and not reach out to the market is a disservice to our fans."

...

This is what McCourt must fear: Fans coming from all parts of the Los Angeles area to embrace the Angels. It's irrational, but not unfamiliar. McCourt is in good company with his insecurity.

It is no coincidence when George Steinbrenner attempts to push the Mets off the tabloid back pages by creating a Yankees splash with a timed tirade or trade. Sharing is difficult for owners used to claiming entire sandboxes.

But is it really? With the Inland Empire much closer to Arte's park than Dodger Stadium, it seems like there's plenty to share here. In trying to bang out a distinct identity, and marketing each team against the other, they're helping each other out (so long as the teams keep winning, that is).

Synergy.

Now, that's the ticket.

Comments:
Yeah, I have to admit I normally don't like the word, but in this case it's truly justified.
