Pickoff Moves

Werth Out Two Weeks

Jayson Werth will miss two weeks of spring training due to a fractured wrist, says the Times. Okay, so maybe I'm beginning to think the "injury magnet" tag has some weight.

Update: dodgers.com has more on this, saying it's an "avulsion fraction .. [in his] left arm", and he could miss all of spring training and possibly opening day if he doesn't heal in time.

Decoding Mike Speak

When Mike Scioscia says...
"If Casey does something outstanding, there is a chance" for him to make the 25-man roster, said Manager Mike Scioscia, who considers Kotchman among the candidates for designated hitter. "But he would have to have a role with significant playing time to be with us."
... he means hitting for power and OBP. You know, everything Erstad can't or won't do.

Dollar Figures For Recent Angels Signees

In that same Riverside Press-Enterprise article immediately above, dollar figures for the 2005 contracts of Chone Figgins ($390k), John Lackey ($440k), Brendan Donnelly ($420k), and Kevin Gregg ($360k). Richard, you know what to do.
