Pickoff Moves, Late Nite Edition

Angels 7, Rangers 6

Lackey goes four brilliant innings, as though he'd never sleepwalked through his 2003 and 2004, and then does a pratfall in the fifth, the only thing missing being the "Live, From New York, It's Saturday Night!" intro. I mean, really, is it better that he can't get out the third batter in every inning, or that he choke in the fifth to make up for four good ones?

The Angels actually hit a few balls, 12 in all.

Helluva dramatic finish, wherein Fins gets to be the hero. Too bad Donnelly had to look so bad.

Beaten Like A Tom-Tomko: Dodgers 6, Giants 0

Whew. And for a couple minutes there last season, I thought somehow Brett Tomko actually learned how to be good. Thank God that's not true.

Weaver was bloody brilliant, Kent a one-man highlight reel (take that, defense doubters), and the pen was -- uh, well, minus Gagné, anyway, and not all that, but so what. I think I'm getting a man-crush on that hunky, goggle-wearin' hero, Jason Phillips. And what kinda maniac is that Jose Valentin, huh? Talk about roaring outta the gate.

Coming up next, the Snakes, and a not so easy weekend series. Glaus showed he can still be a monster.

A's SS Crosby Out "A While"

Oakland starting shortstop Bobby Crosby will be on the DL "a while", according to manager Ken Macha. Crosby injured himself in batting practice, suffering a stress fracture of the ninth and 10th ribs.

Moises Alou May Join Bonds On Giants DL

This time, with a calf strain. He's due for an E-ticket at MRI-land tomorrow:
"I think the DL is something we'll consider the next couple days based on how he reacts," trainer Stan Conte said Thursday before the Giants hosted the Dodgers. "Three of the last five years he had this problem and spent 15-17 days on the DL and didn't have any problems the rest of the year."
It's the same injury he had in 2000-2002, so it's unlikely to affect him for very long. Still, you expect Conte to earn his paychecks this year.

Update: Sure enough, the Giants moved him to the DL.

What? Another All-Baseball A's Blog?

Yup, it's Straight A's.

Comments:
Great win by Weaver. Now Buster Olney can do an insider column on why the giants bullpen is shakier than Don Knotts in a dynamite factory. Because no one would pay to read it. Sheesh, talking making a big thing about Opening Day.
