Baby, I Kneed You: Dodgers 4, Nationals 2

Is it a surprise that the Nats are playing .500 ball, more or less? I don't know if they'll finish the season that way, but with the Phillies mired in injuries, the Braves looking like they're in a holding pattern until the next generation of outfielders comes along, and the Marlins providing brilliant pitching, the Nats have, for the short term, expectations of mediocrity, which is far more than they could have hoped for even a year ago.

The Dodgers lost Jose Valentin's knee on a bad slide, and he'll have an MRI done today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he comes out of it okay, but Nakamura must be hoping for the opposite result so he can get that hundred at bats he's looking for.

Anybody who missed the postgame interview with Jason Phillips missed a young man who shows obvious intelligence and fire; he's clearly a bright guy, and, aside from his verbal "you know" tics, his hitting has brought the Dodgers a real positive at the catcher's spot. It may take a few times to get it down, but Phillips has a natural flair in front of a camera.

Apparently I missed the throwing of junk onto the field by some "fans". (More on this from the Daily News.) As I've said before, classlessness is a distinction that, in the main, seems to reside more with Dodger fans, unfortunate though that may be; it may be a function of proximity, or it may be a function of the larger stadium. Whatever it is, grow up, people.

Recap

Comments:
Case in point...

Monday night I went to Dodger Stadium and sat in the row right behind the new seats (which means terrible sight lines... anyone sits in front of you and you're watching the game on the scoreboard).

Anyways, two guys come up and sit right in front of my friend and me. They're wearing these huge cowboy hats they made out of beer cartons. Seriously.

We asked them to take them off. They said "no f'ing way you don't like it, move."

Dodger fans. Nothing but class. Add that type of thing with the no tailgating rules, and I'll drive the hour plus to get to Anaheim instead.

Way to go Dodger fan... fantastic.
