The Not Ready For Prime Time Player: Indians 14, Angels 5

Two things usually happen when a young pitcher takes the mound for the first time in a major league setting: We got number two yesterday, and I'll gently suggest here that he's too underdeveloped; until yesterday's game, the Indians were the worst-hitting team in the league (collective team average .241, only better than the badly slumping A's at .238). He should probably get sent back, but Kelvim Escobar's absence from the starting rotation means the Dodgers will get their licks in this weekend most likely.

Speaking of guys the Angels need to send back, is it time to declare the era of Kevin Gregg sadly over? He can't even get through the spaghetti-batted Indians without giving up four earned runs. The second a better option appears, I'm beginning to think the Angels will run off with it. Unfortunately, that also means Esteban Yan, who has spent most of his career being a third or fifth option in the pen -- save last year for the Tigers, when he was their leading reliever by innings pitched. It may come as a surprise to you to learn that the Tigers were not a particularly good team last year. If so, you may go back to reading the financial news.

Update: despite comments above, the rotation for the Dodgers series is Washburn, Lackey, and Byrd.

Recap

Comments:
Lackey may have a 4.40 ERA, but his last three starts have been quality starts, and he pitches in the AL. No pitcher in Dodgers' rotation can say any of that. (Weaver has two quality starts in May, though.)
