LAPD Asked To Assist With Dodger Stadium Security
Now that $2 Tuesdays has become Fight Night, the Dodgers have asked LAPD to provide uniformed security, a request which has not yet been approved.Angels Stadium has always had Anaheim police as part of its security retinue since it opened in 1966.
Chuck Tiffany Disabled After Cancer Surgery
Dodger prospect Chuck Tiffany has been disabled after the removal of a cancerous mole, according to the Register.Oscar Robles At Second, Not Third
In that same Register article, Jim Tracy says Oscar Robles will be used to spell Jeff Kent rather than playing third base, with Antonio Perez more likely to take over at the hot corner.Derrick Hall To Snakes
Again in that same Register article, former Dodger VP of communications Derrick Hall has been hired by Arizona to be their VP of Communications. "Hall spent 11 years with the Dodgers before resigning during spring training 2004."Frankie: Long-Term Me Now
Francisco Rodriguez has been in the majors only three years, but he knows how the dealing gets done. He's asking for a long-term contract now, and if the Angels don't start negotiating, it'll cost them even more at the arbitration table. Stoneman is not so impressed:"History has shown the Angels have done these in the past, but it really doesn't serve the club's purpose to have anybody discussing contracts during the season," Angels general manager Bill Stoneman said. "The focus of the player and everybody should be on playing, and not how much money they're going to make."
Davey Lopes "Still In The Game"
Davey Lopes, the great former Dodger second baseman, is now the Padres' first base coach; he recently did an interview with the Riverside Press-Enterprise. Sample:Thanks to BTF for the link.Q: Do you have aspirations of one day getting back into managing?Padres 1B Coach Davey Lopes
A: That's not up to me. To be honest, I don't think that will happen.
I'm pretty much what you'd call old-school, and for some reason that term has become bad terminology in baseball."
Q: Why?
A: Because of the transition in the people that hire people. They're all young, Ivy League-type guys that have never played the game of baseball. They're very knowledgeable, very numbers oriented -- Billy Beane disciples, from what I read.
From that standpoint it's not likely to happen. But that's OK.
If it does, if someone wants to take a shot, they know I'm still in the game.
Do I expect somebody to come knocking? No. Am I mad? No. That's just the way things are.
As a parent of two young kids I want to feel safe at the game, I'm greatly in favor of this. What's the best way for me to deliver that feedback to the Dodgers organization? I went to Dodgers.com, but to send an email seemed to require me to register with MLB.com and other stuff I'm not interested in.
