Angels: Winning The War Of Attrition?
Stephen, late of the much-lamented Mariners Wheelhouse, stopped by to leave a breadcrumb to this U.S.S. Mariner post about injuries to top-rated (by Baseball America) Angels pitching prospects over the period 1995-2005; he finds a total of five, two elbows and three shoulders. Over that same period of time, the Mariners had nine. By way of comparison:
| Team | # Pitchers | Shoulder | Elbow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mariners | 29 | 5 | 4 |
| Angels | 28 | 2 | 3 |
| Astros | 29 | 1 | 6 |
| Athletics | 32 | 0 | 0 |
| Blue Jays | 24 | 2 | 1 |
| Braves | 27 | 3 | 4 |
| Brewers | 25 | 3 | 5 |
| Cardinals | 36 | 4 | 5 |
| Cubs | 37 | 6 | 3 |
| Devil Rays | 17 | 2 | 1 |
| Dodgers | 27 | 3 | 5 |
Without knowing more here, it seems like the Angels are somewhere in the middle of this mess. The Dodgers should be coming soon.
