Choke, Choke, Choke: Mets 5, Angels 3

Finley was a league-average outfielder; this year, he's a bit below league average (Rate2 96) so maybe today's game isn't unexpected. But combining his weak fielding with the lack of production, it's just getting harder and harder to watch. If Finley cleanly fields that ball, the Angels probably get out of the game with a win. But if we want to complain about fielding here, how about Dallas McPherson's misplay of Jose Reyes' pop single to left? He barely moved at first, and then couldn't catch up to it.

I don't have much to say about Donnelly, who lost the game; he obviously doesn't have whatever he had anymore, and I'm beginning to think he and Peralta need to be swapped around as much as possible. Certainly, he's no longer trustworthy in close games. Wash wasn't great, giving up six hits and allowing a single walk on a bases-loaded walk (following eight consecutive balls!), but he did enough to let the Angels win.

On the other hand: we had some great defensive plays, including one by Adam Kennedy in the second to end the inning. The difference between Chone Figgins and Kennedy is huge, and now that AK seems to have his bat back in order, he's a great guy to have in the lineup. It's too bad that, after his contract is up, he's almost certainly going to disappear for one of the army of middle infielders the Angels have coming up.

Tough loss. And tomorrow, Pedro Martinez.
