Katie Brownell, Cooperstown On Line One
Thanks to Richard for finding this AP story about Katie Brownell, whom Cooperstown has apparently contacted. (Here's the links to my two previous entries on her.) No kidding, they want to induct her into the Hall of Fame. Well, kind of:
[T]he National Baseball Hall of Fame wants to put her jersey on display in the same shrine that includes items from Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Hank Aaron. In fact, the hall will host a program for Katie and her Dodger teammates July 7, when the young pitcher will donate her jersey.Of course, Rich will note her career batters faced and quality of competition is lower than Bert Blyleven's, but I abstain from such arguments, cherishing the event for what it was."I thought, this tops everything, this is amazing. That's when it finally clicked: This is bigger than I thought," said Katie's mother, Denise Bischoff.
