Pickoff Moves
Roster Moves
- The Giants, who previously DFA'd Matt Herges, have traded him to the Diamondbacks for outfielder Doug DeVore. The Snakes will get $1M in cash in the deal. DeVore looks to be possibly a useful fourth outfielder, nothing more.
- Padres starter Jake Peavy will miss his start tomorrow; from the flu. Ryan Klesko had the same thing and missed his start last night, but Brian Giles and Geoff Blum played through it.
- With the Astros spending their days in the dumpster this year, rumor is that Roger Clemens is headed to Arlington. Adam Morris at Lone Star Ball demurs, saying "if I'm John Hart, I make that trade."
- The Giants' Marquis Grissom will remain on the DL an extra day thanks to a paperwork screwup. Grissom had a contused knee.
Minor League Notes
- Boras The Obstructor: Finally, Jered Weaver will report to Rancho for his first game, though it's unknown when he'll make his first start; now I've got at least two reasons to go visit Rancho. But all this silliness of holding out until the last day to get the contract done was ridiculous; Weaver could have had this contract last year.
- Kendry Morales snapped a slump by going 3-5 against the Lancaster Jethawks.
- Jason Grabowski went 5-for-5 in yesterday's contest versus the Giants' AAA Grizzlies franchise, including a home run. Box
CSULB-Centric NCAA Championship News
CSULB slaughtered the Rhode Island Rams Friday, 11-2. In a decision Rich called "unwise", the Dirtbags decided not to start ace Cesar Ramos, with the "best command of any college pitcher according to Baseball America", against USC's Ian Kennedy, "who is putting up better numbers than former Trojan Mark Prior at the same stage of their careers"; the predictable result was CSULB taking a 6-4 tumble.Newer› ‹Older
