Angels Sign Second-Rounder Ryan Mount

The Angels have signed their second-round pick, Ryan Mount.
A left-handed batter who throws right-handed, Mount hit .440 (33/75) with five home runs, 20 RBI, a .533 on-base percentage and .853 slugging percentage as a 1995 senior at Ayala High School in Chino Hills, CA. The 6-0, 180 pounder was named to the All-USA Today High School second team and the L.A. Times All-Region Baseball team (for Inland Empire). Baseball America ranked him No. 3 among all high school players in the "Best Arm Strength" category on the 2005 Draft Best Tools list.
Baseball America recently ran a feature on Angels scouting director Eddie Bane and the issues he's had with signing top-round talent:
Bane says the pace of signing the players stems from his club’s approach to signability.

“As an organization, we don’t make it a practice of contacting players on the day of the draft to ask what they’ll sign for like other teams do,” Bane said. “That may be something we have to look at a little more closely in the future.

“Our priority has been trying to get to know the players better. We feel it helps us get a better read on their ability, but maybe not on their signability.”

Seems a little old for this draft.

Hm. The Baseball America subscribers-only draft database doesn't give ages, but the MLB.com draft tracker gives his birthdate as 1986-08-17, which would mean he's 18. Must be a typo.

that was a typo, william. if not, then
ryan would have graduated from ayala high
at the age of 8 yrs since he really is 18.

yeah thats a typo, i know cause ryan usd to be my neighbor i also went to ayala high, he graduated in 2005 with my brother, they both used to kick it
