Minor League Scorebook
Preface: I added the "interesting players" feature and seeded it with
the top 25 players in each system from the 2005 Baseball America Prospect
Handbook (and the players I happen to know who are doing rehab assignments). I can see already that this may be somewhat overkill; it's
so hard to know what they'll do before the season, and there's a bunch
of 'em who aren't doing squat right now. It may turn out to be a better idea
to limit it to ones who have an actual shot, but some guys (I'm thinking of
Warner Madrigal in the Angels system as a prime example) are just having such
bad seasons that they're no longer interesting. "Interesting" players are
highlighted with their names in bold text.

Mathis: 2-4, 1 HR
Gorneault: 2-4, 1 HR
Allen: 2-4

Woods: (BS, 2)(W, 2-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB, 7.00 ERA
Free Casey Kotchman! Free Nick Gorneault! Free Jeff Mathis! Just kidding, a nice game for all three of those guys, and all of them needed it. Gorneault stole a base, too. A quality start for Chris Bootcheck.

Morales, K: 0-5
Del Chiaro: 2-4, 1 HR
Olenberger: (W, 5-5), 8.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, 4.09 ERA
I don't know how long Morales' slump has been going on, but it's been a while now; his average is down to .238.

When I read this at first I thought it was a software bug. No, Rancho had a
Sunday off.

Abreu: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.50 ERA
Joe Torres continues his post-surgery struggles. I don't wonder but that they demote him.

Pete: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.16 ERA
Mike Pete was a hideous reliever for the Gators in 2002-2004; I can't even find any evidence the Angels drafted him, meaning he was likely signed as a free agent this year. Somehow, he's strung together some good innings for the Owlz. That K/9 around 9.00 isn't likely to last once he gets to higher levels and/or more innings, but it's a start, and far better than he did in college.

Mooneyham was the subject of a Salt Lake Tribune article earlier in the month, one of those things that gets grandmas all dewy-eyed about the long odds of any individual getting to the show, let alone being good. But Mooneyham's .294/.394/.518 line (in 85 AB) shows he's got some pop, and more, really good plate discipline.
