OT: You Made A Liar Out Of Me, Dammit
48 hours is such a short time, such a tiny little time in the space of things, but it was all it took to undo your life, Shan.
They don't even have a name for the virus that killed you.
Shannon Salva, 1970?-2005
Comments:
Thursday, they admitted her to the hospital for worsening flu-like conditions that had been nagging at her all month. Yesterday she slipped into a coma, and by nightfall her brain ceased functioning. This morning at 9:30 she passed away. That is all I know.
My condolences, Rob.
For what it's worth, it sounds like spinal meningitis. A friend of mine in high school died under similar circumstances.

I'm so sorry, Rob - and my God, terribly sorry for you too, Will. I've been reading stories about untimely deaths all week. It's too hard.
Rob,
Also wanted to weigh in on my condolensces. Menangitis was the first thing that popped into my head too, having lost a work associate to it under similar circumstances as your friend Shannon.

Life is truly fragile. I have a cousin who has 3 months to live (27yr old) because of a liver disfunction, and she has trouble getting a transplant because she cant get off the painkillers. Life truly is fragile.
It's always tough, Rob. My best friend lost his 2-year old son to a similar sudden raging viral infection.
We step back, we regroup. For most of us, with prayer, discipline, and hard work we fill the pit that remains with sturdy new growth instead of festering an abscess that consumes and destroys.
Nice words, yeah? But after you've done that, every now and then - mostly when you least expect it - the past rushes back and threatens to rip outeverything you've been so carefully nurturing and growing.
And that's when I pray you find yourself the strongest to hold to what she was and what she is, Rob. That's the time that honors and that heals.
My condolences and best wishes for you and all the rest who love her.
