Roster Notes
- Cesar Izturis rejoined the Dodgers lineup last night, batting second. Yeah, fat lot of difference his 0-4 made. I wonder if he even remembers what it feels like to be productive; he was 9-86 (.105) in June. Dammit, Tracy, bat him eighth until he proves he's actually capable of getting the bat on the ball.
- Franquelis Osorio was sent down to Las Vegas to make room for Izturis.
- Kent missed yesterday's game due to the bruise he endured in Thursday's game fielding a routine throw at first base, so naturally comes word in the morning's Times that Tracy has asked Kent to play first. Not that he's actually going to do it, but that puts Choi in the position of being a third choice for first base. Fire Jim Tracy.
- Wilson Alvarez reported extreme control problems in his Thursday outing with Las Vegas, requiring 33 pitches to get out of the inning.
"I feel great, but my control is so bad right now," said Alvarez, on the disabled list since May 31 because of a sore left shoulder. "I've been hitting 90-91 [mph], but I don't know where the ball is going. … The balls aren't even close to the strike zone."
- Dallas McPherson could be out for longer than the minimum, according to the Times.
"He's had some issues with his back, groin and hip, and hopefully they're not chronic," Scioscia said of McPherson, who is eligible to return next Saturday. "But they have to be addressed now. He has a lot of work ahead of him."
- Troy Percival's torn flexor muscle has taken him back to see Angels team physician Lewis Yocum on Monday. Barring "some kind of miracle treatment", Percival is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Update: According to the Detroit News, Percy's injury could be career-ending. Former Chicago Cubs headcase Kyle Farnsworth has become the Tigers' closer in his stead.
- Orlando Cabrera was activated last night, and Curtis Pride sent down to AAA Salt Lake to make room.
- Garret Anderson was in Los Angeles for his grandmother's funeral Friday. He will rejoin the club today and is expected to play.
- Mike Scioscia has said signing Al Leiter at league minimum after he clears waivers "would be something we'd consider." Maybe, but not something I'd consider.
