Sickles On The Angels Farm
Former ESPN minor league columnist John Sickles has another column up at FutureAngels, this time grading Angels prospects at season's midpoint. Choice excerpts:
- On Casey Kotchman: Concerns that Kotchman would not develop sufficient power appear well-founded: he’s hit just .269/.344/.362 at Salt Lake, very weak numbers for the Pacific Coast League. He continues to control the strike zone very well, which is a good sign, and his strikeout rate is low. But where’s the pop?
- On D-Mac: His problems with strikeouts are obvious, but when he connects well it goes a long way. I think he will be fine in the medium and long runs.
- Jeff Mathis: ..holding his own at a high level and a difficult position at age 22.
- Matt Trumbo: ...expect gaudy numbers this summer. Lots of upside here, but avoid buying into ALL the hype until we see what he does in full-season ball.
Update: I misread his post a little; it was actually a midseason review of his top 20 prospects.
