Trade Deadline Moves
To be updated throughout the day, which may not be immediately as I have non-baseball things to worry about:
- The Mariners unloaded lefty Ron Villone to Florida, in exchange for a couple prospects, Yorman Bazardo and Mike Flannery.
- The White Sox acquired INF Geoff Blum from the Padres, in exchange for minor league pitcher Ryan Meaux.
- Update 3:57 pm: Looks like the Diamondbacks have become the latest dumping ground for pitchers who can't even hack it in the Yankee bullpen, as Buddy Groom joins the Snakes, for a PTBNL or cash. Groom was DFA'd earlier in the week, and had nothing nice to say about Torre afterwards:
"I didn't get a fair shake here," the 40-year-old said. "I came here to pitch in key situations and I became a mop-up guy, not getting in any games; you tell me what that looks like to you. You know, you come here, you don't get a chance unless you're one of the boys.
"Don't come here thinking you might get a lot of opportunities, because unless you're one of Joe's boys, you're not going to get much of a shot."
