Watching Jeff DaVanon Homer: Angels 2, Twins 1

Maya might actually celebrate tonight by writing a blog entry; but such speculation is largely beside the point, and liable to be construed as unnecessary tweaking. Jeffy's homer got the win, but Lackey looked his sharpest in several games, picking up ten strikeouts and hauling his ERA down to 3.97, the lowest it's been all month, and only his first quality start in July.

I'm getting more and more concerned with Anderson's play in left. He just seems immobile out there, and at times apathetic, like shagging fly balls is something a millionaire just doesn't do. Anderson's throwing error in the third wouldn't have been an error had he gotten to the ball in a reasonable amount of time; instead, he had to rush his throw and screwed up. And whatever improvement we saw in Finley in his first appearance since returning from the DL was erased by that unbelievable roll-under-the-glove trick that no competent centerfielder -- spelled, in case you're reading this, Mike, C-h-o-n-e F-i-g-g-i-n-s -- would have let get past him. He was 3-12 over the series, which for him represents an improvement, provided he can keep hitting with power.

While the Dodgers play on the TV in the next room, I'm reminded that the Yankees vs. Red Sox game is on tonight, and the probables will be the recently and foolishly acquired Al Leiter for the Yankees, and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield for the Red Sox. Well -- you know who I'm always rooting for -- or, against...
