Bonds To The AL Rumors Restart

Today's Times cites a Sacramento Bee article, in which Giants owner Peter Magowan says that Barry Bonds could be traded to an American League team if Bonds were to ask for such a deal.
Giants managing general partner Peter Magowan said he wouldn't encourage the notion but would listen if Barry Bonds expressed an interest in concluding his career as an American League designated hitter.

That possibility, specifically a trade with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim so he could be close to his home, has been mentioned by Bonds in the past. It rings truer now that he's 41 and has missed the season following three right knee surgeries.

"We would explore trading Barry only if he came to us and said that's what he wanted to do," Magowan said Tuesday, placing emphasis on the word "only."

"I don't want to be misrepresented on this. We are not looking to trade Barry Bonds."

...

"My legs are already gone. I can already tell the difference. Aging is something you can't escape. It's going to catch up to all of us. I'm already feeling it. I'm tired all the time. I'm sore all the time. I can't play all year. My body will not allow it."

But why would the Angels need Barry Bonds when they have Dallas McPherson? Oh, wait...

Earlier in the week, Magowan had defended his team's failure to void the last year on Bonds' contract as hindsight talking.

Comments:
Yeah, I would be shocked, too.
