Minor League Scorebook
- Home/away splits aren't going yet.
- Batter vs. pitcher, which I don't have yet, either.
- Box scores don't yet provide certain textual things like HBP, sac flies, errors against, etc.
- Presentation is still up in the air.
Also: from Baseball America, the best AA tools:
- Angels: Best Power, Mike Napoli; Best Defensive Second Baseman, Alberto Callaspo; Most Exciting Player, Erick Aybar.
- Dodgers: Best Strike Zone Judgement, Russell Martin; Best Baserunner, Todd Donovan; Best Pitching Prospect, Chad Billingsley; Best Breaking Ball, Chad Billingsley; Best Defensive Catcher, Russell Martin.
- Angels: Vlad Guerrero won Best Hitter, Most Exciting Player, and won a mention in the Best Outfield Arm category. Chone Figgins got a mention in the Best Bunter category, as did Bartolo Colon for Best Fastball and Adam Kennedy for Best Defensive Second Baseman. K-Rod won Best Slider, and Mike Scioscia won Best Manager.
- Dodgers: Cesar Izturis won Best Shortstop.
With that, we move on to tonight's scores...
2005-08-04: Memphis 13, Salt Lake 10
Gorneault: 3-5, 1 RBI
Mathis: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Allen: 4-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Andrews: (L, 6-6), 3.2 IP, 8 ER, 11 H, 3 K, 5 BB, 6.06 ERA
Woods: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 7.50 ERA
Man, what went wrong with Jake Woods? Other'n that... Gorneault was a homer shy of the cyle, and tons of hitting on both sides.
As an aside, Casey Kotchman got called up and appeared in today's matinee game. Reading this MLB.com story, you'd think he was just in a long slump early on, but not according to Baseball America: "Scouts in the PCL say that Kotchman messed himself up by trying to produce more homers. He got too pull-conscious and achieved the opposite result."
Aybar, E: 1-5
Kendrick, H: 2-5, 1 RBI
Morales, K: 0-5
Eylward: 2-3, 1 RBI
Aspito: 2-3, 2 RBI
Olenberger: (W, 7-5), 7.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 3.79 ERA
Very sloppy game by Springfield, with three errors resulting in three unearned runs. Kasey Olenberger got the win with a quality start, three earned runs in seven innings, with five strikeouts, three walks, and four hits. Kendry Morales was the only Trav to fail to get on base.
Shall we talk about Mike Eylward a little more? Over the last two weeks, he's hitting .500/.543/1.048 with six home runs in 48 AB. That's hot.
McPherson: 1-4, 1 RBI
Wilson: 2-4, 1 RBI
Hunter: (L, 6-8), 5.0 IP, 6 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 5.11 ERA
MacKenzie: 3.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 6.02 ERA
D-Mac with an RBI single but no strikeouts. Good.
Toussaint: 1-4, 1 RBI
Madrigal: 0-3
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 RBI
Gelinas: (L, 7-7), 2.1 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.14 ERA
Stanton: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 5.35 ERA
Torres: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 13.50 ERA
Stephen Smith commented on Alexi Casilla today, noting that he could be the only player to appear in all Angels minor league clubs within a year and a half.
West: 3.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 4.26 ERA
Finally got these guys to report, but I had to hack the parser to deal with it. They have been refusing to give me linescores since the second, and I had to synthesize the score (at least) to present it.
Trumbo: 1-4
Shearer: 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 2.33 ERA
Sullivan: (W, 2-2) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 7.46 ERA
This is Kelly Shearer's second time through Rookie ball, the fourteenth-rounder having a 2.82 ERA 2-3 record for Mesa last year before getting promoted to Provo last year. He's improved his K/BB ratio (20/13 so far) over last year, but he needs to miss more bats (26 hits in 32.2 IP) if he wants to advance.
Aybar: 1-5
Rose: 0-2, 2 BB
Schrager: 1-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Erickson: (L, 0-1), 4.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 11.25 ERA
Dannemiller: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.15 ERA
Osoria: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.20 ERA
Not only does Scott Erickson not have it in the major leagues, he doesn't have it in the minors, either.
Martin, R: 2-5, 1 RBI
LaRoche, A: 2-4, 1 RBI
Loney: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Meadows: 1-4, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Ruggiano, J: 2-5, 1 RBI
Orenduff, J: (W, 5-1), 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 4.58 ERA
Kemp: 2-4, 1 RBI
Dunlap: 2-4, 1 RBI
Bruce: 2-4
Raglani: 2-4, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Cabrera: 2-4, 2 RBI
Muegge: 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 3.58 ERA
Hoorelbeke: (W, 7-1) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1.80 ERA
The Dodgers overcame a 6-0 deficit and beat the Tampa Yankees for their sixth straight win, a season high. Seems pitching is a bit of a problem throughout the Yankees' system.
Batz: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Malone: (W, 9-5), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 7 K, 3 BB, 3.65 ERA
Akin: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.90 ERA
Bell: 1-3, 2 BB
Jansen: 1-2, 2 BB
Castillo: (L, 0-2), 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.81 ERA
Paris: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 5.48 ERA
De Jesus over the last week: .450/.500/.500. Kuh-razee!
Locke: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Pujols: 0-2, 2 BB
Justis: 3-4
Wade: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 4.12 ERA
Pratt: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.92 ERA
Here's a brief story about Ogden's Brent Leach, Crafty Southpaw™.
"I'm not a flame-thrower," said Leach, who allowed three hits and an unearned run Tuesday in topping Idaho Falls. "I don't heat it up by any means. I just try to keep them off-balance and keep them guessing."...
"Everyone wants his fastball to be his best pitch," Leach said. "I'm a starter now and I've fallen in love with my changeup. I never used it in college. I usually stay around 87-88 but for one inning, I could throw between 90 and 92.
