Minor League Scorebook
Quinlan: 3-4
Mathis, J: 1-4
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Hunter: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 4.35 ERA
Bergman, D: (BS, 3)(L, 7-5) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 3 BB, 3.19 ERA
Nick Gorneault's grand slam went for naught as the the Stingers couldn't hold onto the 4-2 lead going into the sixth. Quinlan's hits were all singles. Combined with a Tacoma win over Las Vegas, Salt Lake fell out of first place.
Willits, R: 0-4
Kendrick, H: 1-4, 2 RBI
Morales, K: 3-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Porter: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Eylward: 0-1, 2 BB
Weaver: (W, 2-1), 6.2 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 4 BB, 4.91 ERA
Now, that's more like it! Jered Weaver had his first good outing at Arkansas as the Travs breezed past the Rough Riders. Weaver struggled in the first inning but settled down thereafter. Kendry Morales especially had a good outing, but so did Erick Aybar and Greg Porter.
Update 8/19: This Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article mentions the fact that the Travs' opponent on the mound was Baseball America's twelfth-ranked prospect in the Rangers' system, Edison Volquez, 1-5 on the year with a 4.42 ERA. Without knowing the particulars of his case -- for all we know he's coming off an injury -- it's hard to believe the Rangers as recently as last month were calling him "Little Pedro". But, this is the Texas League, where pitchers go to get clobbered; yet, Volquez pitches in the most neutral park in his division. Go figure.
Holcomb: (L, 8-7), 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 9 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 5.44 ERA
MacKenzie: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 5.70 ERA
Zimmermann: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.44 ERA
Wood's home run was his 36th, tying A-Rod for the most in pro ball.
Toussaint: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Madrigal: 1-4
Rodriguez, F: (L, 6-9), 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.34 ERA
Stanton: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.81 ERA
Two De La Cruzes -- Eddie and Jose -- combined to pitch eight innings for two runs and six strikeouts for the Devil Rays. Solo homers from Drew Toussaint and Sean Rodriguez accounted for all the Kernels' scoring.
2005-08-18: Orem 7, Great Falls 5
Morris: 3-5, 1 RBI
Trumbo: 2-5, 2 RBI
Overstreet: 2-3, 1 RBI
Hughes: 1-2, 2 BB
Didjurgis: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.88 ERA
Pete: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.95 ERA
For Pete's sake! I keep waiting for him to blow up. Hasn't happened yet. Trumbo's heating up, hitting .360/.429/.440 over the last week. He needed it.
Young, D: 0-5
Aybar: 1-3
Grabowski: 2-3
Eckert: (L, 5-7), 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 5.58 ERA
Osoria: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 2.22 ERA
As mentioned upthread, the 51's loss helped to knock the Stingers out of first place. Another good game from Osoria.
Guzman, J: 2-5
Loney: 1-4, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Garcia: 2-4
Martin, R: 0-1
Hanrahan: 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 7 BB, 5.15 ERA
Alvarez, C: 1.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.34 ERA
Perez: (L, 1-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 1.50 ERA
It looked, at first, like another win on the charge to the postseason, but Joel Hanrahan gave up five earned runs, including a solo home run. Secret Weapon Beltran Perez gave up only his second earned run in 18.1 IP.
Hu: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Kemp: 1-3
Dunlap: 1-3, 1 RBI
Denker, T: 0-3
Tiffany: (L, 10-7), 5.1 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 3.96 ERA
Sorry, Chuck.
Batz: 2-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Russ: 1-2, 2 BB
Carter, R: 2-4, 1 RBI
Plummer: (L, 4-3), 6.0 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 3.82 ERA
My favorite named player in the Dodgers system, Daniel Batz, has a very nice outing, but the Rome Braves rolled over Columbus on this one.
Perez: 3-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Gonzalez: 2-3, 2 RBI
Dasni: (L, 0-5), 3.2 IP, 9 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 5 BB, 8.26 ERA
