Minor League Scorebook

A couple notes before getting started: And with that, on to the races...

2005-08-21: Sacramento 2, Salt Lake 3

Quinlan: 2-4
Mathis, J: 2-4
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 RBI
Woods: 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 5.40 ERA
Bergman, D: (W, 8-5) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.15 ERA
Ah, how I enjoy beating the A's farm teams. It's almost as good as a win against the parent club. But I digress. Jake Woods had a great evening on the mound, one in which he faced a former teammate, Tom Gregorio. The River Cats only managed one extra-base hit against Woods, a triple. Meantime, the Stingers put together three doubles among their eleven hits. Pinch hitter Luke Allen came up with a game winning single with the bases loaded.
2005-08-21: Frisco 4, Arkansas 8
Aybar, E: 2-3, 1 RBI
Willits, R: 1-4
Kendrick, H: 0-3
Napoli, M: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI
Morales, K: 2-3, 2 RBI
Gates: 1-1, 3 BB, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Matranga: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Duff: 2-4
Olenberger: (W, 8-7), 6.1 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 3.94 ERA
I guess we can safely say that John Danks is having a bad year, as he's getting absolutely pounded in AA, with a 5.36 ERA, 3-9 and all seven earned runs in this game. David Matranga and David Gates -- likely not of the 70's cheez-rock band, Bread -- both homered, and Gates got three walks otherwise. One of Morales' hits was a double.
2005-08-21: Rancho Cucamonga 12, High Desert 11
Peel, A: 3-5
Leahy: 3-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Wood, B: 3-6, 2 HR, 7 RBI
Wilson: 3-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Brown: 3-5, 2 RBI
Remole: 2-6
Johnson: 3-5
Jepsen: 4.1 IP, 8 ER, 8 H, 2 K, 4 BB, 12.38 ERA
Thompson: (BS, 1)(W, 6-8) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.98 ERA
Zimmermann: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 3.31 ERA
WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Those dingers would be 37 and 38 on the year for Wood. Guess he's got that home run swing back now, as these are his third in four days. On the other hand, High Desert is known as a launching pad, so maybe I shouldn't get so excited.

Update 8/22: More on this game at FutureAngels.

2005-08-21: Cedar Rapids 7, Clinton 4
Rodriguez, S: 0-4
Sandoval, F: 2-4
Collins: 2-4
Leblanc: 0-2, 3 BB
Madrigal: 1-3, 2 RBI
Green: 6.0 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 9 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 3.40 ERA
Stanton: (W, 4-4) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 4.60 ERA
2005-08-21: AZL Angels 5, AZL Cubs 6
Sales: 3-4
Johnson: 2-4, 1 RBI
Adenhart: (L, 1-3), 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 4.26 ERA
West: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 3.48 ERA
Update 8/22: This game was Adenhart's second-highest strikeout total (tied with his 8/6 game) of the brief season. No walks, but a bunch of hits. On the other hand: no home runs, either, not a single one all season. Two errors led to five unearned runs; that's fugly.
2005-08-21: Orem 6, Great Falls 4
Statia: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Boyer: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Trumbo: 2-4
Cowles: 1-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Smith: 3-4, 1 RBI
Hawkins: (W, 4-2), 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.22 ERA
Didjurgis: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 2.72 ERA
2005-08-21: Portland 6, Las Vegas 8
Young, D: 2-3
Myrow: 1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Chen: 2-3, 1 RBI
Mahomes: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 5.03 ERA
Osoria: (W, 6-4) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 2.62 ERA
2005-08-21: Jacksonville 2, Mississippi 0
LaRoche, A: 1-4, 2 RBI
Loney: 0-4
Martin, R: 2-4
Guzman, J: 0-1
Billingsley: (W, 11-6), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 3.81 ERA
Good for Billingsley!
2005-08-21: Jupiter 9, Vero Beach 18
Paul: 3-4, 1 RBI
Hu: 3-4, 1 RBI
Dunlap: 2-4, 1 HR, 5 RBI
Kemp: 0-3, 1 RBI
Raglani: 0-2, 3 BB
Rohan: 2-4, 1 RBI
Denker, T: 0-3, 2 BB
Bellorin, E: 2-4, 1 HR, 7 RBI
Hoffmann: 3-5, 2 RBI
Muegge: (W, 8-2), 5.1 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.56 ERA
Simmons: 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 4.42 ERA
Now that's a pasting! Jupiter used five pitchers to escape this brutality; starter James Russ, who actually had a good record coming into this game, took seven earned runs here, but the rest of the staff came off little better, with reliever Matt Overman coughing up another six earned runs. Ironically, the Hammerheads' final reliever -- Ryan Schade -- has a last name that means "pity" in German. Danny Muegge got the win despite surrendering five runs, all earned. For the Dodgers, the big offensive story was Edwin Bellorin, who got only his third home run all year, but he made it count with the bases loaded. His slam was immediately followed by another by Cory Dunlap. Bellorin's seven RBI tied the most in a single game by a Vero Beach Dodger this season.

The mid-day game lasted 3:30, with a heat index well into the 100 degree range. Ouch.

Carter, B: 2-5
Dewitt: 2-4
Pedroza: 1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Russ: 2-3, 2 RBI
Reina: 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 1 HR, 6.00 ERA
O'Flaherty: (L, 3-2) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 4 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 6.33 ERA
2005-08-21: GCL Dodgers did not play
2005-08-21: Ogden 3, Billings 5
Rivera: 2-3, 1 RBI
Richmond: 2-3, 1 RBI
Meloan: (L, 0-1), 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 3.00 ERA
