Hochevar Negotiations Heat Up
The Knoxville News reports that Paul DePodesta has replaced Logan White as negotiator in the team's bid to sign first-round pick Luke Hochevar. Both sides have made significant compromises, with Hochevar's side (read: Boras) dropping his demand for a major league contract. The title of the article ("Dodgers up offer for Hochevar") makes it sound like the Dodgers have raised their bid, but the article provides nothing to support that.
Update from the San Bernardino Sun: Todd Helton, the former Volunteer, had this to say about Hochevar:
"He has proven all he needs to prove at the collegiate level," said Helton, a five-time All-Star. "I have seen him pitch, and he's a heck of a pitcher. I think he could be in the big leagues by next year. He is too talented a kid not to get out there and play professionally."In other words, Hochevar needs to sign with the Dodgers. And soon.
"As long as the Dodgers are being honest and truthful and all that stuff," Helton said. "But I should say I have no idea what has been going on there."
