The Stingers busted this game open in the seventh with a four-run inning, with Ryan Budde and Alberto Callaspo getting big hits. Gorneault's 3-4 night with two home runs and four RBIs also deserves mention. Joe Saunders held together, albeit very shakily. Scott Dunn went the rest of the way.

Lynch: (W, 1-1) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1.57 ERA
Orem won this one in the ninth in a tense pitcher's duel. Brad Coon got a bunt single followed by a fielder's choice allowing him to take second. Dallas Morris then singled him home.

Both sides used six pitchers to get through this old West shootout that Tacoma ultimately won.
2005-09-01: Carolina 1, Jacksonville 4 (Completed Early: Doubleheader) #
Martin, R: 1-3
LaRoche, A: 1-2
Ruggiano, J: 1-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Billingsley: (W, 13-6), 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 8 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 3.51 ERA
Broxton: 0.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.21 ERA
With all the weather-related game cancellations going on in the southeast, it's good to see at least one game get completed. This game claims to be half of a doubleheader, but MILB.com doesn't have the second bill up.

Update: The first half was actually the rest of Wednesday's suspended game, which was played out Thursday. Thanks to commenter Blake Sullivan for the heads up.

2005-09-01: Vero Beach 3, St. Lucie 4 #
Dewitt: 2-4
Kemp: 0-3
Dunlap: 0-3
Rohan: 2-4, 1 K
Bellorin, E: 2-4, 1 K
Denker, T: 2-4
Paul: 1-4
Pilkington: (L, 7-9), 4.1 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.71 ERA
A less-than-stellar outing from Pilkington and three errors contributed to the Dodgers' loss. All Vero's scoring happened in the eighth inning.

Nicholson: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Russ: 0-5, 4 K

Akin: (L, 1-3), 6.0 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 7 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 4.29 ERA
2005-09-01: GCL Dodgers did not play
2005-09-01: Orem 1, Ogden 0 #
Wade: (L, 2-2), 9.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 3.89 ERA
What a drag to pitch a one-run complete game and lose.

Comments:
How did you end up settling the permalink problem?

Still researching it.

The Jacksonville game that you listed was actually the second game of the double header. The first game was the completion of the Aug, 31 game and was thus listed under Aug 31.

Here's the box score

Thanks for that. Looks like my parser blew up on that one, or else they didn't have it posted at the time I crawled milb.com last night. I'll get it fixed presently.

Ah, actually it looks like the game you posted was the August 31 game, which was also a doubleheader, but something went screwy. With only one game played each day, I'm not sure how they get away with calling it a doubleheader (maybe a reschedule thanks to all the rain?).

Here's the deal: The Suns were supposed to play on the 31st and 1st but the game on the 31st was suspended in the bottom of the fourth, with the Suns down 3 to 2. The game was finished as the first part of a double header on the 1st. With the Suns coming back to win. Presumably, because the game started on the 31st, it was recorded as having occured on the 31st, which might be why your scripts didn't pick it up. I find it interesting that the completion of the suspended game went the full nine innings, while the second half of the double header went the normal double header length of 7 innings. It could be that the decided to let it go the full length because they only had a little more than 5 innings more to play anyway

Yeah, probably that was it. The completed game was allowed to stand as the one on the 31st. I'll make a note on that day.
