Same As It Ever Was: Astros 7, Braves 3

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself-well...how did I get here?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Bottom 7th: The Braves bullpen is struggling, surrendering four runs so far. The wisdom of picking up a closer straight from college (Joey Devine) and letting him blow games -- even and especially big ones -- seems rather suspect, calling to mind the criticisms that Bobby Cox sometimes gets that he manages the same way in the regular season as he does in the postseason. A GIDP ends the inning, but it's still about as brutal a half frame as you can get in the postseason, especially considering the Braves are on the road and get to face Brad Lidge after three more outs. 6-2 Astros.

Top 8th: Even though Roy Oswalt has 99 pitches, Phil Garner let him start anyway. After surrendering a single to Marcus Giles and getting Chipper Jones to fly out to center, Garner pulled Oswalt in favor of Dan Wheeler. With Andruw Jones, Adam LaRoche, and Jeff Francoeur coming up, I'm not so sure that's a good idea, but we'll see.

Andruw Jones doubled, scoring Marcus Giles, but that would be it for the Bravos. 7-4 Astros

Top 9th: Phil Garner shows all the same idiotic tendencies he did last year that cost him a World Series appearance. Tonight, it was putting Brad Lidge in against the lower part of the Braves order with a four-run lead; what, they didn't have anybody else competent to pitch to McCann? If the Astros get past the Braves, Garner will overtax his bullpen, allowing weaker pitchers to face the heart of the Cardinals order, and getting flushed from the postseason again.
