Roster Notes
A good bit of this stuff is courtesy of Rotoworld:
- That flushing sound you heard is player salaries leaving South Florida, as Alfredo Amezaga's name comes up as a possible starter at second base next year.
- The Miami Herald says that the Fish and Diamondbacks are nearing a deal to actually send Paul LoDuca to Arizona.
- Billy Beane is talking to Barry Zito's agent, Arn Tellem, about a long-term extension. Of course, that won't stop the Rangers from asking about an in-division trade possibly including Kevin Mench and Ian Kinsler.
- In the Star-Telegram article above, the Dodgers have inquired about Alfonso Soriano, while Toronto is interested in Kevin Mench. Also, the Rangers have gotten into the Manny Ramirez sweepstakes.
- Toronto isn't interested in a Manny Ramirez trade.
- Following Manny's announcements to friends about his recalcitrance, David Wells says he won't report to spring training if he isn't traded. He would prefer the Padres but is also interested in the Giants. Supposedly the Padres would be willing to trade Mark Loretta for Wells and backup catcher Doug Mirabelli.
- The Astros are interested in bringing back Octavio Dotel.
- The O's have dropped their pursuit of Paul Byrd, but Kansas City has made a $22M/3-year offer to the former Angel starter.
- The A's are interested in bringing Mike Piazza on as a DH.
- K-Rod is pitching in the Venezuelan winter leagues again.
